info about the waxing and waning moon: we know that the moon rotates in the same direction as the earth, just a little faster. this means that if we observe the moon in the sky at the same time from day to day, it moves from west to east (e.g. from the new moon to the full moon). if it moves away from the sun we have a waxing moon, if it moves towards the sun we have a waning moon. so either the distance to the sun increases or the distance to the sun decreases. the side from which the sun shines on the moon can be clearly seen on the völbing. is this easy to understand?
