Jürgen lodemann fessenheim
short description
publication date: february 20, 2013
more explosive than ever: fessenheim, the controversial, unsafe nuclear power plant in alsace, on the upper rhine. a stirring plea. il accuse: a piece of littérature engagée by the freiburg journalist, writer and geographer jürgen lodemann. his answer to fukushima.novelle comes from novelty: the tremendous novelty of this stirring and excitingly current novella is that it uses the example of fessenheim to demonstrate the sophisticated self-deception with which europe ignores and suppresses real, deadly dangers.
it's about the decaying double reactor fessenheim am rhein, france's oldest nuclear breeder in the border triangle, almost 25 kilometers southwest of freiburg, which has been in the slipstream of this scandal since 1971. it's about an imagined exploding breeder, it's about how difficult it is to bring men to a moment of truth, it's very specifically about a night with a geologist and about how the beautiful old city of freiburg could still save itself despite everything.
and it's about people who know the delicate geology of the high rhine and upper rhine and also the danger posed by the dilapidated kiln, but who talk about powerlessness in a clever, belittling manner and would rather advance and pursue a political career instead of rebellion. fessenheim and the final camp illusion become acute documentary fiction, a political alarm, a wake-up call to everyone...

press reviews
»panic literature, science fiction or the dark picture of an inevitable future? lodemann creates a partially oppressive scenario that cleverly and effectively balances enlightenment, political agitation and recommended entertainment.« (ekz)

»when fessenheim explodes: horror vision in book form. jürgen lodemann creates a dark vision: his book fessenheim describes the nuclear catastrophe on the upper rhine - and at the same time leads to a completely different topic that affects the body and stomach of the author, who lives in freiburg." (badische zeitung)

"lodemann's book is politically and ecologically highly topical: what happens if a tsunami from lake constance tears away the fessenheim nuclear power plant - triggered by an earthquake in the upper rhine graben? meticulously researched, with anger in his stomach and brilliantly written.« (swr 2)
