letter to the editor on the article: “a culture of mistrust”, bnn monday,
july 20, 2015 (from the region)

on the debate about nuclear waste storage on the “karlsruhe atomic days”
the scientific aspect seems to me just as clear as the
legal one - namely that there will never be a final repository because
there is no one who can guarantee for tens or hundreds of thousands of
years how rock, salt, steel or concrete will behave in
earthquakes (rheingraben), volcanic eruptions (volcanic eifel) or during an
ice age or, or, or restrained.
on the contrary, the inability of long-term storage seems to be obvious
, see reports about rusting barrels and water
after just a few years of “normal operation” in asse and in the former
leopoldshafen nuclear research center.

legally speaking, the license to operate a nuclear power plant is
still tied to proof of the final disposal of
radioactive waste! this means: if it were admitted that there was no final storage or disposal of radiation, there would not be a single nuclear power plant that had a legally permissible license and all reactors would have to be shut down immediately. furthermore, a chemical conversion of the substances, for example through transmutation, is not possible, since radioactive waste never loses the radiation bound to its atoms (plutonium problem). and here, too, nuclear waste is created again, and
of course no one can give a 100 percent guarantee that a catastrophe will not happen.

i thought it was great that two students from karlsruhe presented at the atomdays
what is important to them and their classmates for safety in
nuclear power plants. among other things, constant checks and much more. what i missed, however, was a clear demand from the young high school students to shut down all nuclear power plants in germany immediately in order to really rule out the danger of a catastrophe and to stop the exponentially increasing nuclear waste finally and for all time.
