 Ask a Question

Dear sir or madam, here is a correction to the letter to the editor: stubborn historical falsification from october 28th, 2015

… this happened, as described, for the first time in the events of april 22nd, 1915, when the chlorine gas cloud blown out of 5,700 gas bottles drifted with a light wind from the german positions towards the french trenches between bixschoote and langemarck. in the evening of that day, between 6 and 7 p.m., the hand of the epoch clock jumped from the vitalistic, late-romantic phase of modernity to that of nuclear-terrorist objectivity. there has not been a turning point of the same depth in this field since then.

the military-historical curiosity of the gas war from 1915 to 1918, as can be seen in retrospect, is that state-sponsored forms of environmental terror were integrated into the so-called regular warfare of lawfully recruited armies on both sides of the front - in explicit disregard of article 23a of the hague code of land warfare 1907, in which the use of poisons and suffering-aggravating weapons of any kind for actions against the enemy and especially against the non-combatant population was expressly excluded.

since both sides were aware that they were violating the laws of war, they refrained from raising objections to the opposing governments against the use of poison gases. prof. haber's false argument that chlorine is not a poison, but only an irritant gas, and that it is therefore not affected by the hague convention, has persisted into recent german national apologetics.
