to “politics has failed” from march 23rd. march:
the letter to the editor on the topic of "denigration of all nuclear research" did not capture the fact that only those researchers were criticized who, despite the phase-out of nuclear power in germany, are happily continuing to research new nuclear power plants here and are still producing nuclear waste at the kit nord, institute for transuranic elements (itu) in leopoldshafen and linkenheim and are incidentally contaminating the air with carcinogenic, radioactive substances - within the permitted limits, of course. it's about the researchers who have been doing this since the 1950s and, despite chernobyl, fukushima and asse, act irresponsibly and also blame politics for their failure.
calling them alchemists is completely ok, because in the middle ages alchemists were those who promised everything in order to receive money for their research and kept nothing themselves. today, these specialists still promise the safe and cheap generation of nuclear power with new reactors and the safe final storage of nuclear waste for thousands of years.
in order to counteract a general denigration of nuclear research, i would be happy if responsible nuclear researchers would change sides and nuclear power critics could support us in the fight against the madness of nuclear research with insider knowledge, for example about the new fourth generation liquid salt thorium reactors. in terms of danger, these new reactors will eclipse anything that has existed before. research on this is ongoing – kit nord and itu are “first” in this regard – worldwide. quote from bund: “this further develops and promotes a highly dangerous, expensive technology when there are cost-effective, environmentally friendly alternatives (wind, sun, hydropower...).”
