letter to the editor on the article: “where to put contaminated material?” u000bbnn from september 23, 2015 (from the region)

you get a bad feeling when the spokeswoman for the öko-institut never tires of emphasizing that everything that is relevant was checked at the residue processing center and the on-site waste storage facility in philippsburg, even without an environmental impact assessment (eia), and that no danger can come from irradiated nuclear waste and that only noise protection needs to be improved. just as worrying is the lecture from the tüv, which has to examine almost 400,000 tons of demolition material from the nuclear power plant before it is to be deposited in normal landfills - the radiation is of course below the limit value but there is still no landfill that wants to accept the "measured" i.e. diluted waste. conclusion: no problem at all, citizens do not have to be involved in the eia, too much radiation does not reach the environment, and there is no need to fear significant environmental impacts. only who can guarantee us that the low-level radiation from radioactive particles does not enter our body, e.g. b. via the air, and can still harm us and cause cancer - and where is the civil dialogue at eye level?
