our world - a networked system the international traveling exhibition "our world - a networked system" (1978-1996) was created with its own resources and with the help of sponsors without public subsidies. it was opened as an anniversary exhibition to mark the 75th anniversary of the german museum in 1978, where it was on display for several weeks and, with 21,000 visitors, attracted the largest response to a special exhibition at the museum. federal president walter scheel in his speech: "i always expected a lot from the german museum. the fact that it is dedicating its anniversary exhibition to what i believe to be the central problem of the scientific and technical world shows a deep understanding of the social tasks of the german museum... with this exhibition you have fulfilled this task in an impressive way... the current exhibition is a good, a courageous, a forward-looking beginning." after this great success, the federal environment agency, together with the senate of the city of berlin and the federal ministry of the interior, assumed part of the remaining debt for the opening in berlin. the exhibition was then shown on a non-profit basis in all major cities in the federal republic and german-speaking countries. the large number of visitors, including many school classes, showed the population's interest in the content of the exhibition, which for the first time presented the connections in our world in all its facets. in 2001, the exhibition - although more relevant than ever - was temporarily closed because the funds for a thorough overhaul could not be found. the remaining exhibits have been the property of malik management st.gallen ag since the integration of frederic vester's works in 2006. the exhibition should now be updated and reactivated if possible. in 2014, some exhibits, especially the first ökolopoly, were shown as part of the isaga 2014 exhibition "time capsule gaming". a further reactivation of individual exhibits is being prepared for 2016. the paperback edition of the catalog "our world - a networked system" is out of stock (dtv, 11th edition 2002). in the srg's video film new land of thinking, frederic vester leads through the exhibition. "humans and nature" frederic vester designed the exhibition for the bavarian ministry of the environment: "humans and nature - a shared future" for the ministry's pavilion at the international garden show in 1983. "water u003d life" the exhibition shows four interactive exhibits - the large hubs on the water cycles. it was commissioned by frederic vester for the straubing state garden show in 1988. it is based on vester's window book of the same name. in 2002, the exhibitions and the accompanying materials were updated by prof. vester. both exhibitions are traveling exhibitions and can still be requested for loan from the bavarian state ministry for the environment, health and consumer protection.
